Day 5 San Antonio Rose, but the temperature went down
Knowing we only had a few hours to drive, we had a relaxed departure from Houston. The Best Western Plus had a nice late checkout time of noon, and a wonderful breakfast buffet with eggs, sausage, waffles and bagels to choose from. So we took our time and didn't get on the road until almost 11am.
I used to think I-16 from Macon to Savannah was about the dullest stretch of highway there was, but I-10 from Houston to San Antonio has it beat. Flat and featureless landscapes, few services at exits, and little to look at made this a dull trip. We spent the time listening to professional storyteller Donald Davis' humorous tale of a mule trip into the Grand Canyon. We decided we would NOT take that trip when we get there.
We passed La Grange (of ZZTop fame)
and ate lunch at Shoney's where Sarah polished off a Hot Chocolate ice cream cake in short order.
We found our hotel in San Antonio easily, and headed straight for the pool, even though the temperature was only 98.
Then we headed to the fabulous Riverwalk, and enjoyed the beautiful scenery.
The kids were especially taken with the families of ducks on the river.
We also found an historic-looking cathedral on the Main Square,
a giant outdoor ampitheater featuring historical drama,
Amy and the kids are in bed early tonight to rest up for the Alamo tomorrow, and as i write, this is the view from our balcony to the Tiki Bar and pool below.
Please reply or email to let me know you have seen this.
See you tomorrow!
